Grant Writer Wanted

The Sewaren Free Public Library is seeking volunteer grant writers to research and identify viable grants as well as prepare and submit grant applications.

In August of 1913, Mrs. Balfour, from the Sewaren Civic Association proposed an effort be made to a Free Public Library in Sewaren. Using the office of the Sewaren improvement company they raised funds, had tea, and card parties. It had been a children's library and a church.
By October 16th they had committees formed, and they began to request magazines and books. The Library was opened December 1913. By December 31 of 1913 they had already 417 volumes.

Volunteers

CALLING All VOLUNTEERS! If you are over 14 and interested in volunteering as little as 2 hours a month at the library stop by and sign up. The hours can be scheduled or at your own convenience.

Volunteer cleaning person needed to come in and clean once a week. The cleaning would be light, vacuuming, dusting as well as a few duties. The cleaning usually takes 1/2 hour.

• All of our library events are put together and run by volunteers. You can always help run one of our already scheduled activities or possibly start your own. If you have a special talent or interest you would like to share with others, we are always interested in offering new programs to the public.

• Monday evenings and every other Saturday the library remains open because of volunteers. You can be trained to work at the library and then scheduled once a month as a library clerk. With enough volunteers we can hopefully expand our hours.

• Quite a few of our volunteers come in at their own convenience. You can stop in on your lunch hour or when you have some spare time to help keep the library orderly. Some tasks you may do are putting bookshelves in order, light cleaning, covering books and more. The flexibility of this option makes it great for people who want to volunteer but don't have a lot of time.

• Our grounds are maintained by volunteers. If you've got a knack for mowing the lawn or shoveling we'd love to have you volunteer.

Book, Video, and DVD Donations Welcomed

Books should be 3 years young or newer and left with the librarian. Please do not leave them on our porch. No textbooks or magazines please.

Your Purchases Make a Difference

Most events, services provided at Sewaren Library are free. By choosing however to make copied, or rent our building for meetings - you are choosing to make a difference in the community. Here are some ways you can help: All proceeds benefit the Sewaren Library

• Make your copies here. Our copies are still ONLY 5 CENTS!

• Purchase our totes & t-shirts. They make great gifts. Now marked down $8 each or 2 for $10

• Speaking of great presents. There are plenty of books and videos on sale at the front of the library. Prices are only 25 cents per paperback book, $1.00 per hardcover book, and $1.00 per video. Many of these items are in new or like new condition.

• Donations can be made in honor of someone else. This makes great gifts that last forever!

• Need a place to meet? This cozy space is perfect for small business meetings, social groups and instructional seminars. Meeting time available for a nominal fee.

• Don't forget to support our annual fund drive. Donations make great gifts that last forever.

• By choosing to use our services, you are choosing to support our real community library.
